LT WEEE DIRECTIVE
EU Directive 2012/19/EU
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) aims to minimise the
impacts of Electrical and Electronic Equipment on the environment during their life
time and when they become waste.
The directive applies to a huge spectrum of products. It encourages and sets criteria
for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE. It makes producers
responsible for financing most of these activities. The company fully supports the
WEEE directive.
The WEEE directive divides equipment into the following categories:
CATEGORY 1 & 10 - Large household appliances – cookers, fridges, freezers, washing
machines, microwaves, electric heaters and cooking appliances.
CATEGORY 3 & 4 - TVs, radios, faxes, printers, computers, HI-FI’s, video cameras,
laptops, telephones, mobiles, calculators.
CATEGORY 2, 6, 7 & 9 - Small household appliances – vacuum cleaners, irons,
toasters, clocks, watches, scales, coffee machines, fryers, electrical tools, toys, leisure
equipment, thermostats and smoke detectors.
CATEGORY 5 – Fluorescent tubes, sodium lamps and bulbs.
It can be seen from the above that Louth Transformer Company has no responsibilities
in regards to the WEEE directive, however we fully support the recycling of electrical
items and always ensure that any unavoidable waste
produced is disposed of via suitable, licenced waste
processing companies and is recycled to the maximum
extent possible.
